Hike / Tramp near Yoichi

Positioned at the foot of the Shakotan peninsula, Yoichi offers great access to several popular hiking areas. Shakotan peninsula offers a long stretch of rocky coastline to explore with walks down to the beach and to several beautiful viewpoints. Travel south from Yoichi, and you will soon see Mt Yotei, also known as Ezo-Fuji or Hokkaido's Mt Fuji. A conical volcano, Mt Yotei is a great day trip for more experienced walkers. Head back towards Otaru for access to Shioya Maruyama - another easy 2-hour walk.

Indeed, there are easy hiking trails located even closer to our location, including the iconic Mount Siripa on Yoichi's west side. This two-hour round-trip trail showcases 88 Jizo statues and offers stunning views of the blue coastline from the summit. Please exercise caution near the cliffs, especially if you have young children.

The low hills in this area are ideal for enjoying the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn when the weather is pleasantly mild and there are fewer insects. On the other hand, Mount Yoitei is best tackled during the summer months when conditions are favorable for climbing.
